100 Cover Versions #74: Sara Bareilles covers 'Stoney End' by Laura Nyro

The song Stoney End was written and first recorded by Laura Nyro. It featured on her debut album More Than a New Discovery in 1967. That album was later re-titled The First Songs. In 1971 Barbra Streisand covered Stoney End and that song was the title track of that album which was also Barbra's twelfth studio album. That album also included two other songs that were written by Laura Hands off the Man (Flim Flam Man) and Time and Love.

This year Laura Nyro was one of the new inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of the great things about these ceremonies is that it allows people and a younger generation to rediscover or discover the rich legacy of America's history of popular song.  Laura Nyro is really one of the worthiest people to be recognised for her music.

Sara Barielles performed Stoney End at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony this year and her version I think also acknowledged Barbra's version. Her performance was also introduced by the ever wonderful Bette Midler.

How amazing is THAT? One of my favorite singers singing one of my favorite Barbra Streisand songs! Thanks for sharing.

Not a fan of Bette, though. Met her once, and she was truly mean to everyone.

Glad you like that cover John, I'm still deciding which Barbra song to post.

Pity to hear that about Bette!
